The NEW ZEALAND visitor’s visa allows you to holiday in New Zealand for up to nine months. Before traveling to New Zealand, you need to make sure your passport is valid for at least three months longer than your expected departure date. During your stay, you’ll need enough money to support yourself and everyone included in your application. While you’re here, you can enjoy New Zealand’s scenery, adventure, culture, and friendly people.

If you have a biometric ordinary passport (or electronic passport) and are over 12 years old, you may be able to use New Zealand Customs e-Gate service. This allows you to complete your Customs and Immigration checks faster so you can get on with enjoying your visit to New Zealand.

Eligibility Criteria

You will require an NZETA and not a Visitor Visa if you fulfil the following. The immigration officer will see to that.

  • You are an Australian citizen or resident.
  • You can stay up to 6 months in New Zealand if you are a UK citizen and/or passport holder.
  • Citizens from Visa-Waiver agreement countries can stay in New Zealand for 3 months.

Documents Required

The following documents are required in order to get your tourist visa by Indians to obtain a New Zealand Visitor Visa.

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months validity at the time of arrival in New Zealand
  • Two recent photographs of 35mm x 45mm, with white background
  • Visa application forms and a covering letter demonstrating the purpose of visit.
  • Bank statements of last 6 months and International Credit card copies with statements
  • Proof of funds to buy one or an onward ticket from New Zealand.
  • Proof of funds to sustain during your stay in New Zealand
  • A sponsorship form is required for Temporary Entry when a New Zealand resident is supporting you.
    • Note:
    There is no visa on arrival facility for Indian citizens. Indian Nationality passport holders are required to obtain a Visitor Visa before entering New Zealand. You will be required to submit the following documents along with your visa application.

The first step is to gather information needed to be provided with the Visitor Visa application. You need to prove or provide documents as well.

How long can you stay in New Zealand on a Tourist Visa?

Generally, the maximum stay holding a Visitor Visa is nine months. We usually only allow visitors to stay for nine months in an 18-month period. To work this out, we look at the last day that you intend to be in New Zealand (e.g. 1 July 2020) and count back 18 months from there (e.g. 1 January 2019). When you apply for a visa through one of our offices, we make sure that in that 18-month period (eg 1 January 2019 – 1 July 2020) you will not be spending more than nine months in New Zealand.

Processing Time for Visit Visa

Processing times describe the time needed by INZ to process your visa application once you have lodged it. Generally work, visitor and student visas are processed between 1-2 months.
  • 50% of Visitor Visa applications are completed within 76 days.
  • 75% of Visitor Visa applications are completed within 90 days.
  • 90% of Visitor Visa applications are completed within 120 days.
